Similar question here's my scenario. Currently have award for tix in J BER-CDG-IAD on AF with partner and 2 young kids. Rates have decreased such that I have the option to fly BER-AMS-IAD on KL in J for about 220k less points. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to pay the 270Euro fee to get back 220k points and switch to KL flights.
AF would be A320 and 773 (config with F)
KL would be an EMB195 and A330
Thoughts?
I think AF offers a better hard product although with two young kids the KLM J seats probably aren’t that bad plus this is a daytime flight so sleep unlikely.
Was on a recent KL flight with 1-2-1 configuration and there were a couple of parents who really struggled with the seating config in terms of being able to support their young children during the flight. One of the parents ended up climbing over the central seat divide throughout the flight. Fair to say they seemed really stressed by it all.
If you need easy and frequent access to the kids throughout the flight, you might want to think carefully on which seats you choose. Not sure I would know which to recommend, but it's fair to say they really struggled to attend to the children due to the layout.
