You did not say that you gave them the credit card number to find the original tickets the funds were purchased with. If you did
not have that,
nor the confirmation number, then they did not have any validation that you were the real identity of the reservation. Therefore, they cannot give you the confirmation number. It was not given to you for security reasons.
It cannot be that easy to say over the phone that you are John Doe flying from BWI to FLL and to ask for the confirmation number so that you can cancel the reservation. You have to provide them with something that proves you are John Doe.
Scanning your
physical RR card is a way the Kiosk can determine your identity. Giving your number over the phone will not validate your identity.
SWA would apply only the credits from the flight I had missed that night because I had the confirmation #, and I had to fork out $$'s to make up the difference for a last minute full fare home for the following morning. They wouldn't touch the tix I had wanted to cancel for the following morning without a confirmation #, citing security reasons.
You could have made a unpaid reservation for the following morning. Then you could have come to the ticket counter and they could have easily exchanged all of your unused funds to purchase your full fare ticket. I have personally done that many times for many passengers.
Anyone with a difference experience, in-person at the airport?
It would not be a problem at the airport. We can easily validate your identity by checking your federal/state issued photo identification.
