1. Should be fine from a flight perspective. They are likely not going to pay for a taxi from Kansai.
2. Probably not a problem, provided there are seats on the flight. Not that the connection is much better.
3. Certainly is an option they use when needed. Last connection is 21:36 from Shinagawa.
4. I don't think it should come to this.
The staff will have a plan ready, and if your SO wants another one of the options above, it might take a bit of convincing. But basically should be possible.
But some of these may require a single PNR booking. JAL agent from the US call center has specifically warned me they will not cover the additional cost of a misconnect when I booked a same day domestic connection separately.
