I’m not sure there has been any official change but there have been a few reports that some of these paid upgrades on AA have received credit for the upgraded class with BAEC.

Edited to add:
AA is apparently going to allow paid upgrades to earn LPs in the AAdvantage program but it isn’t clear that means more Avios and TPs for BAEC.
