In the past year AA have systematically cut every evening service from LAX to LAS, PHX and TUS so now it's basically impossible to start in EU and end at final destination in Nevada or Arizona in the same day while passing through LAX.
That said, I definitely prefer a night in LAX than a night in JFK (or PHL, or CLT). LAX airport hotels have very frequent shuttles... and I just love the flagship check-in in LAX
I have selected the Holiday Inn at LAX for that reason, plus have chosen a 14.00 departure to Tucson the next day to give some recovery time from arriving at 00.20 the same morning in LAX after leaving DUB on my tier point run.
