This may be a fare rule issue. TA purchased tickets may not be eligible for residual FFCs, that is, the amount not used for the new purchase is forfeited. UA waivers these fare rules for tickets purchased directly with UA but not for TA purchased tickets.

Where did travel start for this ticket, for tickets still with change fees, you get into another series of issues.
