Weather-related cancellation
I recently had a TK flight from IST proactively cancelled because of expected bad weather (snow and wind) at the destination. The cancellation was announced several hours before departure which did seem premature as the weather was expected to improve during the day (which it did indeed do). Looking at arrival data for the destination, there were some early flight delays (no other cancellations) and seemingly normal operations later in the day. It would seem TK made an early decision to cancel the rotation rather than the rolling delays that I am more familiar with in similar situations. They rebooked all passengers onto the next scheduled flight some 17 hours later. Is is worth pursuing TK for compensation given that it appears they didn't do everything in their control to avoid delaying passengers (viz a 17 hour delay rather than maybe 4-5 hours max). Are there maybe case law examples (including from EU261) where weather-related cancellations as opposd to delays have been tested?
