When I was a girl we always went to Palm Beach for the winter. In high school we spent a lot of time hanging out at the beach by the pier. Now the pier is gone, the little drug store at the corner of Worth Ave. and South Ocean Blvd. is gone, and I barely recognize the area. That is sad. The area up around Royal Poinciana still looks much the same and, of course, The Breakers is still beautiful.

La Jolla was another shocker for me. It used to be such a unique little beach town and now it is just more SoCal.

IMHO, the whole world, and especially the USA, is getting too homogenized. The Costco in Anchorage is indentical to the Costco on Maui.
