Just to report back..I ended up NOT getting any upgrade, tbh, despite Amex FHR rate or Amex plat. I had booked two deluxe queen rainforest view rooms (entry level, but at MYR 2350 per night!) and ended up getting only an ‘upgrade’ on one being allegedly ocean view. Was literally the same room as the other one, just one floor up. Both in the same building.

Upon checking in, I did enquire, asked to speak to manager to see what upgrades were available but they would not budge. They said high occupancy etc etc. They wanted to sell me a villa upgrade to beach villa for the next day only for close to 300usd more per night. Not very happy with loyalty treatment tbh. They also did not state anywhere that I had booked Amex fhr rate.

Next time I do Langkawi I will do Datai or FS. I did like the resort overall, great stuff, very nature/green, good food, but for the price range a bit too expensive in my view. The main pool also a tad small.
