If I want to know the booking class before, I'm doing a dummy booking at Expedia. You can see the booking class before booking. Normally it works - I tried also with Japan Airlines and got a non reward booking class shown, but I didn't book the ticket yet.

As well did you check the "Japan Explorer Pass"? These tickets might be cheaper?!
