My friend has never been to DOH so I do not think he'd mind checking out the city during that long layover. Plus, spending a night would be a good break in between long flights. But again, I'm going to bring it up to him to see if he wants a 28hr layover or 3hrs. I think when we booked this, the short connection option was not available for award. Hence the 1am connection. I am sure if QR would provide a hotel for this longer layover. Either way, We would not spend the night at the lounge...we'd definitely get a hotel either through QR or myself.
While you can ask for the hotel, and I would, it does not meet the QR requirements (> 8 hours between connections and no flights with a shorter layover. There
is a flight with a 3 hour layover.)
I would not focus on AS lounge in your case. The question is - do you want to spend a day seeing Doha?
If yes, find a hotel and enjoy.
If no, call QR and ask to move to the 3 hour connection.
