In another thread, it's been suggested that the UK/US date formats are the issue. AA uses MM/DD/YYYY. BA uses DD/MM/YYYY. You could try each format according to which airline is operating each sector.
I suggested that, but to be clear I didn't think to try it when I was having this issue so no idea if it'll work. I think I just checked the Wife in for the first leg - can't remember if that unlocked the ongoing legs anyway or if nothing happened until the airport.
