Why not arrive at 5am and depart at 8am? If they say no, I would ask for a free hotel room.
Well, the change was just pushed a few hours ago. I haven't accepted the change. It just made me wonder about being able to access the AS lounge if I kept the 28hr layover.
My friend has never been to DOH so I do not think he'd mind checking out the city during that long layover. Plus, spending a night would be a good break in between long flights. But again, I'm going to bring it up to him to see if he wants a 28hr layover or 3hrs. I think when we booked this, the short connection option was not available for award. Hence the 1am connection. I am sure if QR would provide a hotel for this longer layover. Either way, We would not spend the night at the lounge...we'd definitely get a hotel either through QR or myself.
