In old days, I'd tend to agree with JJeffrey but these days out of ORD there is no guarantee they'd be able to get you on that later flight. Then you are stuck getting to a hotel - likely not the Hilton at the airport - and who knows which flight they can get you on the next day. You may be stuck on a later in the day flight. Maybe standby for an earlier?
With full flights these days and other IIROPS, I've been stuck for almost 24 hours a coupel of times

So, I'd go just the opposite if I had a choice. No stress, no hassle and you are only getting home an hour later. Since you are not driving when you get there, maybe a glass of wine to pass the time. Easy
