The Amex customer service team maintains good notes on which clients are the most polite - and which ones they can't stand.
Be SUPER NICE to the Amex customer service agents. If you get considered for the black card, the way you treat their team will be factored in. If some of the agents really like you, they'll be the ones to actually recommend you.
