This makes sound like you are new to flying. For day of IROPS, the operating carrier of the flight at issue is the one responsible for rebooking you. It doesn't matter who the flight was marketed as (DL in this case).

AF has an interline with some carriers that DL doesn't. (And v.v.) However that means AF must take the DL ticket and reissue on an AF ticket to do so. DL like all airlines can only issue a ticket on their own stock, thus no EK/QR, ETC.. DL technically had no duty to even handle rebooking. However, as they did sell the ticket, they were willing to do so. However subject to the limits of what DL can do.

It doesn't matter what carrier/alliance you would run into these issues.

Sorry you had issues. However if you guys are going to be traveling lots, someone with knowledge about IROPS should be hired/ contracted with.
