I am also in almost same shoe. Based on other posts, it looks you it is difficult to guess, what would work. Most people will try with minimum, which is £850, so probably 1000+ will give you some chances. One of my mate is travelling tomorrow and as per him UC is almost full. So chances to see lot of free seats in UC are slim. But you can bid now and if not successful then you can ask at boarding counter, what they can offer.
