Yeah, it's bad for everyone involved when a PP cardholder gets the bad news from the restaurant. Waste of the cardholder's and staff's time, and the cardholder might have some negative feelings about Amex/Capital One, Priority Pass, the restaurant, and maybe all of them.
At Yankee Pier (SFO), there is a sign that states AMEX PP isn't accepted. The server will also ask if the PP is from AMEX or not.
