I apologise for keep butting in on this thread, but that's not correct. There are numerous checks that are done other than the chip. The chip might be fine but it might still fail, because of the other checks that are done - UV, security type markings, infra red stuff, MRZ readability etc etc.
Yes, accepted. But for self help, checking the chip is about all you can do.
