Whilst I am prepared to be told I am wrong, I am certain you will not get a passport with the same number. You could try checking the chip in your passport with one of the apps available. 'ReadID Me' is one such app on Android. If that is OK, it really only leaves technique, bad luck or you have the same name as someone on a watch list.
