To enter Canada by land or air all that is needed is a NEXUS card (some airlines require seeing a passport but at the actual border all that is needed is the card). To enter the US one can also usually show only a NEXUS (or GE) card.

I'm not sure what process or machines YYC has, but most US preclearance stations now have the new kiosks where ne just looks at it for 1/2 second and then the machine lights up green and tells you to proceed to the officer.
