I do some sidework as a CPA and have to report that income on a schedule C and use my name followed by CPA as my business name and it went through fine. I don't have a federal ID number and always file with my SSN. IIRC, AmEx asked for a copy of my Schedule C but Barclays didn't. You aren't out anything applying and using your SSN as your fed ID number. I can't remember if they asked for my regular income or business income.
