They won't close the Amex card because you only need an MS relationship to maintain that--and your AI account satisfies that requirement.
For the CashPlus, I imagine if you bring the account positive and call in and ask, they can reverse the decision. I had closed my CashPlus once for about 6 weeks and then called to have them reactivate it, and it was very simple for them to do. So reopening closed accounts shouldn't be a difficult thing for the frontline rep.
