Arriving into MXP on a Sunday afternoon at 16:25, from Lisbon. Will take the Malpensa Express to Milano Centrale, for a train to Bologna. Would catching an 18:30 train to Bologna be too aggressive? Two hours to offboard, get bags and ride the Malpensa Express seems reasonable? Will need a bit of extra time in the airport as I'll be with my wife and our two children (2.5 years and 5 months). We are very well seasoned travelers but we know kids create unique situations, haha. And this is our first time navigating MXP. We want to get on the earliest train possible, but don't want to push it too much. The next high speed trains after 18:30 are 19:00, 19:10 and 20:10.
Also, the entire Trenord and Malpensa Express websites seem to be offline? Any associated link I'm getting an error message.
The trains from T1 to Milano Centrale leave approximately every 30 minutes @ hh:13 after the hour and hh:43 after the hour. The question is how much time do you need to get off the plane, collect bags and get to the train platform.
There are two trains that theoretically work (assuming you are arriving T1):
#1 2961 / 16:43 - MALPENSA AEROPORTO T1 --> 17:37 - MILANO CENTRALE (18 minutes to catch Malpensa Express)
#2 2963 / 17:13 - MALPENSA AEROPORTO T1 --> 18:07 - MILANO CENTRALE (48 minutes to catch Malpensa Express)
the next two trains are:
#3 2965 / 17:43 - MALPENSA AEROPORTO T1 --> 18:37 - MILANO CENTRALE (1 hour 18 minutes to catch MXP Express)
#4 2967 / 18:13 - MALPENSA AEROPORTO T1 --> 19:07 - MILANO CENTRALE (1 hour 48 minutes to catch MXP Express)
I would say #1 is next to impossible, #2 everything needs to go perfectly, #3 reasonable with no problems, #4 too much time (unless you have a big problem).
We had visitors from US do a similar route last summer (they were taking the Frecciarossa to Parma where we picked them up). They did the equivalent of #3.
Bottom line, I would agree with
13901.
