The point is that the Police are entitled to ask for an IDP. Whether they do or not is up to them, you might imagine with a licence in English most police would not. But if they ask for it and you don't have an IDP then you may be detained unless you can't come to some other arrangement at the roadside.

I previously had to come to an arrangement in Sarawak when a 4x4 a friend had lent me had an expired JPJ tax disc.
