I guess the best itinerary in this case for the OP would be DTW -> AMS, then train from Amsterdam Centraal -> Paris Gare du Nord -> London then back on LHR -> DTW.

Between AMS and LON, flying into LCY is great too ! But can be expensive.

(I can see DL 10.000 miles + 75€ offers… on AMS - LCY in September)
