I let it slide the first twice but the latest two I’ve asked - is there something wrong with the passport (“No”) or am I on some list (“there is nothing here”). On all four occasions I’ve been lucky that the manual inspection line has been short but that’s bound to run out.
I almost feel like heading directly to the manual line next time.
It all seems very odd, I’ve read most of the previous contributors. It seems ironic that my UK passport has no issue around the world but only at home. Oh an I am in the US Global Entry Scheme.
I find a lot of them won't admit to the bit about being on a list but some give a knowing smile or indicate agreement. I know it's not an issue with scanning itself as the old maroon passport would bunch itself up and not scan correctly, this one is scanning OK but then having the issue - you can tell it gets to a different point in the process than the maroon ones did. Really frustrating but I now just go direct to the manual assistance desk and tell any purple 'helpers' that I've been told to do so previously by the border staff (which I have been!).
