42K FB miles is a good or bad deal ?
I would have taken the miles deal. The best miles fare from AMS to east-Asia (not promo rewards monthly lottery) is 70K miles one way. Of course you’re already at PE but I would still consider it worthwhile because I believe the PE one way fare is 40K from AMS to Asia(I think, haven’t kept up on PE miles charts), so you basically pay 12K premium compared to the best miles fare has to offer and that is only if you are lucky enough to be able to fly on those low fare days.
I would not have taken the cash upgrade; that feels steep as a difference between PE and J.
