of course if all else fails you can simply scan a bp from a previous day. it will scan correctly. i can only hope there is no auto filtering set up to discount stats where you appear to have been queuing for more than 24 hours and it really does mess up their performance figures.
I think if it bothers you then the best thing is to scan an old boarding pass even if they don't insist. It's a sort of passive resistance and if enough people do it then they might realise how pointless this is.
If you really want to mess with the stats though and you're travelling with someone who's arriving at a different time than you then the person who goes through first doesn't scan their current boarding pass at this checkpoint scan but sends their boarding pass to the person who's arriving later then when they go through the checkpoint they scan that one. To be clear only do this with that stats scan, make sure you use your correct boarding pass at all other times
