I think it's a bit more complicated than that, depending on where you're flying from (or to). I'm BOS based, and B6 flies nonstop to far more places than the legacies. On most of the routes where I fly B6 there is no competing option, so a better seat, even with no food, would be something I'd see as a viable option. I realize there are many routes where the competition is more significant, but B6 mostly flies point to point rather than through hubs, so I think it's not quite an apples-to-apples comparison.
