United's CFO Mike Leskinen spoke at 2024 Citi's Global Industrial Tech & Mobility Conference earlier today and wanted to the note the following comment regarding future PRC flying while Russian Airspace remains closed off: "We have an issue with Russian overflight right now. And so the Chinese carriers right now can fly to the U.S. over Russia which is a much less circuitous route and land in the U.S. We can't -- that makes flying from the East Coast and even from Chicago to China very difficult, if not impossible." - This should kill off any chance of UA resuming flying to the PRC outside of SFO/LAX while Russian Airspace is off limits, even if the PRC/US agree to resume more flying, which we all expect now either this year or next. Any all future US-PRC flights on all carriers will have to avoid Russian airspace. Some PRC flag carriers still use Russian airspace but as mentioned earlier, the most recent additions do not.
