Further, in Oz and NZ at least most credit cards generally charge a forex fee of about 2-3%, which is considerably more than the small currency fluctuation that may be present.
In the case of HNL-CHC for example, it's $US579 ($NZ951 at Mastercard's current currency conversion rate) v $NZ949 on FJ's site, before any foreign transaction fee. It's a big plus of the FJ website that you can book fares originating OS without being slugged for foreign transaction fees.
Sorry not sure I fully understand. At the moment, just using a random date of 14 May 2024 the Air NZ website (if I book a "RETURN" fare) shows the return journey (HNL-CHC) as NZ$563.00. If I book a one way fare (HNL-CHC) it transfers me to the US website where the cost for exactly the same flight is US$982. This converts to over NZ$1560 plus foreign exchange fees on the credit card. I am puzzled to see how the same flight, same day can be nearly 3 times as expensive when booking one way???
