They don't ever put them back in the ziplock and plastic container to keep the contents from spilling inside if the pod does ever burst.
At the same time I found a lot of laundromat machines will automatically dispense detergent in Japan so I stopped bringing my own.
That's annoying. I put pods in multiple pill bottles for a long trip and never had TSA inspect.
