It doesn't sound minor to me, especially the part about the seat controls not working. What if F had been full and you couldn't move to another seat?
CPH Flyer mentioned that the United Polaris seat is also made by Safran. Those seats are very popular and well-liked. Also, I thought ANA's The Room is also a Safran seat? (Safran Fusion or something.) So it seems that Safran can (or used to be able to) make seats that don't fall apart.
I've seen a lot of reviews of the JL A350 J seat, and so far they've all been positive and I haven't seen any serious issues raised. Fingers crossed that at least the J seats will hold up better...
