Tangential, but keeping a stash for last minute (think family matter, elder care) has been a real godsend. eg 15k one way v $400-$500 kind of thing 3 days out. Yes these used to be 12.5k saver but still happily accepted.

Saving up for some dream far flung splurge vacation, yeah that scenario is circling the drain and gaining speed.
