Do you have to specifically request for the direct AS transfer to gate? I assume is for bus gates only.

In 2022 I have had a DOH-AUH midnight flight on F, showed the boarding pass to the staff in AS and ask them where the gate is, they just told me is a bus gate and guided me how to walk there.
