Options / purchase timing for Summer 2024 Scotland trip
I think I've posted about this before but I don't remember where or if I'm making it up. In any case, we're going to Scotland this summer. There is one nonstop fight ORD-EDI, and it's on a UA 757. Prices for economy are an eye watering $1700 as of this morning (they were $1500 last night, and $5100 for J). I know it's peak season in Jul/Aug, and the Olympics will be going on then. I am trying to decide what's a decent price or if I should just wait a few months. Looking at the flight details, the flights are only about a third full. Polaris has only 1 or 2 seats sold. So it seems this is a case of UA keeping prices high to see who bites this early.
Google Flights says $1500 is lower than average for this route, but I'm not sure how much I trust it. What's your sense of a decent fare for this? Maybe my expectations are grounded in pre-Covid pricing but I just expect a summertime trip to Europe to be in the $900-1000 range.
