From a hotel/parent company standpoint, there is no reason for them to change things.
There is some reason, but apparently not sufficient reason. There must be others who have fled Hilton as a result, not just me. I have zero nights at Hilton properties in the USA since the change and plan to keep it that way. I went from diamond to staying 10 nights with Hilton last year and 50 nights with IHG. (The IHG lounge access milestone award at 40 nights combined with the Hilton devaluation of breakfast in the USA has made it well worth switching the majority of my nights away from Hilton.)
