In the airline industry, "direct" is different from "nonstop". A nonstop means a single takeoff and landing. A direct flight, as defined in the quoted parenthetical, is a flight which does make a stop, but you stay on the same plane.
Taking such a "direct" flight would be easier than making a connection, and reduce (if not almost eliminate) the risk of misconnection and getting stranded overnight.
Yes but southwest will force my 11 yr old to board alone after everyone else and be seated in a random place. My autistic child and adhd child qualify for preboard but 11yr old would not.
