It's the complaint that is the issue. If you want to open your shade, go ahead. But then don't go complaining when someone doesn't use a headphone/earphone. And that's just one scenario to discuss.
All of y'all love driving this point like it's always just one person doing this. From my experience it's always AT LEAST a quarter to a third of people in windows with shades up. A quarter to a third of the plane is not listening to stuff with no headphones. Plus, for this reference to make any sense at all, they would need to be equivalent comparisons. If window shades were so obnoxious when they're up, they would not give window seat passengers full control over them whenever they want by making it very easy to just lift up the shade or whatever. Meanwhile, there's a reason IFE screens make you plug in or pair a headset to actually get the audio from it. It's not a flying prison, natural light is ok.
