If someone opens a shade during a day flight, trust me, it's still a big distraction. The side with direct sunlight is even worse, but again, let's carry it over to my example, The device is running at 75% volume... is that still acceptable?
It's the complaint that is the issue. If you want to open your shade, go ahead. But then don't go complaining when someone doesn't use a headphone/earphone. And that's just one scenario to discuss.
