I know for a fact that my LGW-TAB goes via somewhere (UVF?) and I only get points for the direct route.
I suspect forum regulars will have a comprehensive list.
But in all these cases there is only one boarding pass, so it's only one flight on the computer.
If you don't get off and get back on a different plane, it's not a new flight.
Fully agree, and the scenario I referred to about taking the same flight but booked as an additional segment would have been the exception, not the rule. I think the one time it may have happened in my favour was when I already had a flexible booking with a stop, and then amended the tag-on flight to be on the same day when availabilities shifted. Or it might have even been something as mundane as the through flight number priced in F or J but the two same flights priced as A/A or R/R or something silly like that. It would have been almost 15 years ago, so I just can’t remember. Just remember some interesting anomalies when splitting up the segments both in pricing and on tier points.

And another time it was definitely a same-day amendment to the trip. BA had a really nice A-fare using feeder flights in J with JJ at the time. I was booked on 247 to GRU in First and then JJxxxx to EZE in J. On the ramp in GRU someone from BA came to me with a BP for the onward 247 and asked if I’d like to travel with BA instead of JJ (yes, of course…)

So I did get off the plane but then back onto the same plane (in J not F) and it was credited as two segments. But, again, very much the exception instead of the norm.

Also I gather BA did it because as a BA ticket they may have made out better not having to give a share of my fare to JJ for the GRU-EZE flight…
