...because, yes, this workaround does the trick nicely. Clunky as hell but will save me spending an age on the phone. Top tip 👍

I agree the above method should come out as a BA Holiday package, with ATOL etc.
Since the move to spend-based Avios earning, I try to book
all my trips now as a BA Holiday, even if it’s only one night in a hotel. I have also found them fantastic at dealing with schedule changes and disruption too. And you get a bonus 1 Avios per £ on the cost of the booking for ex-UK.
