My question is, seeing as I’ve experience it already a bunch of times and I want him to be comfortable and feel the same: can I swap our seats when we board?

Like, for the whole flight of course. Just have him go in my business class seat and me in his premium economy. It’s an AC 787 if matters.

If so: how do I do it? We wouldn’t board at the same time, and agent would check the names. But flight crew wouldn’t, or I assume wouldn’t care if we never swapped again after (I presume)..

Thoughts? Really want him to be comfortable for this flight.
Ask the SD once you've boarded. Give your rationale.
They usually will allow a one-time swap, either at the start of the flight (sometimes near the tail-end of boarding), or during the flight.
It's really not a big deal unless you make it one.

And yes, I've done this before. Once. SD did not have an issue with it but did state that it would be a one-time swap, so we did it immediately after the last pax boarded. Swapped with my sis so she could sit in comfort with her infant daughter (for those who are curious, my infant niece at the time was quieter than the J pax for the entire duration of the flight).
