The air miles comment applies to the reimbursement value of the miles. I suppose that in the event of having to cancel a trip >24hrs before departure, you’d get the miles and most of the taxes back anyway?
Yes, but that's 24 hours from the
outward departure - so if you have to cut your trip short, you won't get anything back for the Avios used on the return journey (which will be non-refundable). You could of course try to change the return journey, but it's possible there won't be redemption availability, especially for the usual popular destinations (SYD, MLE, HND etc.).
The policy does say that you will be reimbursed for any Avios etc. purchased for a trip, but it's ambiguous as to whether this would cover Balance Booster or Avios subscriptions. They might be seen as too remotely linked to any particular trip, especially if you use your Avios for lots of different trips.
