The Emirates First suites look great but their C seats are perfectly obsolete,

You should be lucky to be stuck with AirNZ. I flew them 5 times in C, and find their on board service fantastic and frendly and the seats very comfy. If you survive the fact that their check in staff are unfriendly imbeciles (ok that is just my experience se far) then you will be perfectly happy with them.
Oh - that is if you don't mind the immigration & customs harrassment when flying via LAX.
