Almost certainly significant cost savings for pilot training / crewing, maintenance, parts, etc etc.
We have been arguing/debating about the A330's retirement since the late 00's and early 2010s.
A320 since the MAX.
Who would have thought we have more than doubled the amount of A330 flying today and "new" A320/321 continue joining the fleet.
Fleet commonality isn't a big deal as long as there's a significant fleet size.
There are plenty of airlines flying both the 787 and A350. They are optimized for different routes, not necessarily overlapping. The benefits of optimizing the equipment outweigh the cost of having an extra type.
