Pre-Covid, Chinese airlines played a major role in keeping fares low between North America and Asia/Oceania (e.g. MU offered NYC-TYO for $600 roundtrip). If they are permitted more than 35 weekly slot pairs, fares will certainly come down again (their aggressive return to Europe has demonstrated this).
