We were headed in opposite directions, we arrived in Kanazawa from Tokyo around noon on the 1st and left for Kyoto once trains resumed on the 2nd, arriving at Park Hyatt Kyoto that evening. We stayed at Hyatt House in Kanazawa and spent a good portion of the evening on the 1st in the lobby. The staff was amazing, but it's an experience I'd prefer never to repeat.

Where did you happen to be during the larger earthquake? We were in the Naga-machi district, inside a house for the smaller first quake (we thought the wind kicked up as the doors rattled, I realized after the fact that it was an earthquake and I'd caught it on a Live photo when I checked the time stamps), and outside on a path when the larger one occurred. I am so glad we were out the open, with just trees in the immediate vicinity. We were quite shaken by the experience (pun fully intended).
