Checked baggage

not sure if this thread is still active. I’ll be stopping in Zurich on a 20 hour layover on my way back to the US. Flight originating in Slovenia. What happens to my checked baggage in Zurich? I do plan on leaving the airport and getting a hotel for the night. Will my checked baggage go to my connecting flight automatically? Will I need to claim it and deliver it to connecting flight on my own? I’d rather not carry it around or store it, but didn’t know if 20 hours is too early for getting baggage to next flight…either by me or airline. Any info would be helpful.

I did this two weeks ago. There are luggage storage lockers at the ZRH train station, level above the train platforms. Easy to use.

Plenty of trains to the city (Zürich Hauptbahnhof) - and a short trip (less than 15 minutes). Not sure if a round trip ticket or a day ticket is cheaper than two one-ways.

If you leave at the train station, you can walk down Bahnhofstrasse, 'the world's most expensive shopping street', and it leads to the lake - about a 15 minute walk. There are plenty of cafes, etc., along the way (check the side streets also). This area is also the center of old Zurich.
